Product Update 1.39: Custom Onboarding

May 16, 2019August 30, 2019 by honeycommb

TLDR: We’ve launched an entirely new onboarding experience for customers that gives our partners the ability to tailor the UX towards their brand and audiences. This also includes a change and refresh to the login/registration screen to give users an improved experience.

For more details on the product update, read below 😄

Onboarding is one of the most critical pieces of the user experience in any community. After downloading from the app store, this is the first touchpoint that a user has with your brand as you welcome them to your community and acclimate them into your audience.

With the latest update to Honeycommb, we’ve entirely revamped the onboarding experience to make those first touchpoints impactful and more tangible to the brand principles that you’ve set forth.

To start, we’ve added the ability for community managers to create six (6) pieces of artwork that a user can cycle through before signing up or signing in. Each one of these cards can be a separate opportunity to deliver valuable information on your community and set the right expectation before a user creates their account.

Users will scroll through new onboarding images before signing up.

The content inside these cards is entirely up to you. Whether you’d like to highlight some of the best content created inside your community or set the tone and standards for new users entering for the first time, this is another tool to communicate.

“We strive to provide our customers with the best community customization tools. Our refreshed onboarding experience adds to the suite of resources our partners have to build an incredible place for their audience.”

Honeycommb CEO, Sean Duhame

This is another addition to your blank canvas, you get to decide how to leverage it best for your brand and personalize it for your community.

To support new cards and onboarding experience, we’re also adding a couple of new custom endpoints for you to adjust in real time:

  • Onboarding Logo: The onboarding logo lives above the scrollable cards and provides communities further customization in onboarding with the option to use a different branded asset.
  • Custom Tagline: The space right below the “Onboarding Logo” is reserved for the community tagline.
Refreshed onboarding provides a whole new level of community customization.

In addition to the new onboarding carousel, we’ve made it easier to join (or login) by creating more real estate for the buttons and placing them in a central place on the mobile ultimately increasing the sign-up rates from download to account creation.

The onboarding logo and tagline create a new level of customization after a user scrolls through the carousel

We’re excited about the new onboarding workflow because it gives our partners a better opportunity to reinforce their brand with new members and audiences a better experience as they get started and create their account.

This update to Honeycommb will be applied to all new and existing communities on Android & iOS rolling out in mid-May 2019.
